I wrote this....for an application...

About Myself

I am a Poly Graduate from Singapore Polytechnic. I graduated with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2007, specialising in Materials option in my final year of study. Under this option, I undertook modules like Aerospace Materials , Display Technology & Nanoscience and Higher Mathematics.

During my years of studies, I was actively involved in many leadership positions in school. I was a librarian in my first year for my school's Choir. For the subsequent years, I had been attending leadership training camps to consistently improve my leadership skills and at the same time, widening my circle of friends. I was an Assistant Class Representative for 5 semesters, each time being elected by my classmates. The Student and Alumni Affairs of Singapore Polytechnic had requested my group of friends and I from the Leadership Camp to set up a new CCA called Peer Support Club, aimed at helping students who needs our assistance in their studies or other problems such as relationships, stress etc. One of the goals for this club is also to develop leadership skills among members so that they are able to use it in class and also in the future. I undertook my role as a Membership Secretary, keeping members update on our latest activities and happenings in our club.

I was the Vice-head Librarian when I was in Secondary School. I did the Library proud by participating in numerous Scrabble Competitions, both Inter-Class and Inter-School and emerged as top 10 position most of the time. My most memorable experience was the Inter-School Scrabble Finals held at Suntec City in 2002. Pressure was on, as most of the participants in the Finals came from the Elite Schools. However, my team managed to emerge as the Overall Champion, making my school proud, considering the fact that we came from a neighbourhood school. This was definitely one of my greatest achievements ever.

Currently, I am working on a contract basis as an Administrator at ST Electronics before the start of University. Previously, I had been working as a Contract Production/ Materials Planner at Dorma Singapore Pte Ltd and also as a Contract HR Learning & Development Associate at Genentech Singapore Pte Ltd.

I was attached to the Public Utilities Board for my Industrial Attachment at Singapore Polytechnic. Over at PUB, I was attached to the Mechanical Maintenance West Department. My job scope was mainly observation of the maintenance performed at the various pumping stations and service reservoirs. I learnt how to do some simple maintenance, and also learnt a lot on the functions of those gates and valves that I have seen during my 6 weeks of attachment. It was really a great firsthand experience for me.

Career Aspirations

I aspire to be an Aircraft Engineer after I get my degree. I developed my passion for aircrafts when I was in Polytechnic. I started doing DIY scaled aircraft models soon after. Like many others, I love seeing the planes taking off and performing aerobatic displays in the skies. Admiring the planes up in the skies actually makes me feel so much better whenever I am down. It takes my load off to other destination and lightens myself.

Every part of the aircraft is very intricate. Just a minor malfunction, could actually endanger the lives of the passengers. Thus, being an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, one has to be very focus in every detail, ensuring that the aircraft is in good condition for its next flight, bearing in mind that safety of the passengers in our hands.

Learning is one of my passions as well. There are many components and parts to various aircraft. Different aircraft carries different parts. Thus, personally I feel that this position enables me to be constantly learning, which is something that I am looking forward to. I also have to be very analytical when engaging myself in problem-solving situations like a malfunction in the aircraft and also coming out with practical solutions within the shortest time frame possible. Lastly, it gives me great satisfaction when these problems are solved and also knowing that my hard work has been paid off when I see the aircrafts taking off safely.

Nevertheless, we should not forget that team work actually plays an important role as well. A full proper maintenance and inspection of an aircraft would not be possible without a good team spirit.
